Passing tests left and right

As with all newborns, Toler will continue to undergo typical tests to ensure he is fully developed and progressing on schedule.  Toler underwent two routine tests today, hearing and a general assessment.

Yellow bear has everything in control
The hearing is pretty straightforward, a test to see if he responds to loud noises and if he calms with quiet tones.  The general assessment primarily is to check Toler's muscle tone, coloring, and ensure the little guy is hernia free.  Apparently little boys are prone to hernias, the good news is that Toler will not need surgery.  Toler will get his eye exam next week.

Our next milestone will be Toler's ability to take a bottle.  The good news is that he is already showing positive oral reflexes and likes to take a paci.  As new parents we were shocked to see the little guy immediately hold the paci with his hand.  As you can see we left the yellow bear in charge here.

In addition, to keep Toler's temperature up in his new open crib, he has several layers (including Grandma Glenda's homemade baby blue blanket).

  • Comfy outfit (including hat)
  • Double swaddle blankets
  • Another folded blanket
  • Grandma's knitted blanket
  • Topped with his friends
As he continues to regulate his temperature better each day, layers will be removed, but at just a shade over four pounds our little guy is still putting on his baby fat.

Without all the swaddling, our little man would be just chillin in his crib wearing his oversized preemie threads.
