Toler and friends
On Toler's 1 week birthday his Mom, Dad, and Grandparents gathered his closest friends (including pictures of all his cousins) for a surprise birthday party!
With Toler's first week of life complete he is now just past 31 weeks gestational age. His nurses continue to provide encouraging news, however, since the removal of the CPAP, Toler has begun sporadic 'Bradys' or Bradycardia. In short his heart rate rapidly decreases rate from around 160 bpm to under 80 bpm. Typically babies 'self stimulate' and their heart rate increases on their own, at times the nurses will need to stimulate with a small pat or rub on the back. In addition, caffeine can be administered to help stabilize the heart. Toler has had a few 'bradys' but we are reassured that this is very common in preemes. He was administered a small dose of caffeine and has responded well. Emily asked if it could be administered as Diet Mountain Dew. If the bradys are persistent, Toler could be placed back on the CPAP, but all signs are positive and the need to revisit the CPAP would not be abnormal if necessary.

ReplyDeleteI was caught off guard when I was looking at Toler's pictures and started crying. I think it took me back to when Lily was in the NICU and how every day was so precious! It was not the normal birth we had dreamed of but..oh my goodness..so worth it. I know you guys are exhausted - mentally & physically - and I'm sure it's hard being away from home but please know that we are praying for you and everything's going to be fine. I remember the little things we got excited about - like when the cpap was removed or if she gained 1/10 of an ounce! I'm sitting here now watching Lily sleep on the couch..a whopping 13 lbs...and can't wait for you guys to have Toler home doing the same thing. We can't wait to meet him! Thinking about you guys!!
